ACTION IN ATLANTIC. (Reed. 11 a.m.) CAPETOWN, Jan. 15. Belated official details of the log of the Carnarvon Castle show that the raider scored 38 direct hits. Pour were on the waterline. The others caused only superficial damage. Six of the crew were killed and 31 were injured. The action lasted 00 minutes. The Carnarvon Castle fired altogether about 400 shells, scoring direct hits with about ten salvos. The officers and men are unanimous that the raider received more punishment than it gave. The British armed merchant cruiser Carnarvon Castle (20,000 tons), at the beginning of December engaged a heavily-armed German raider in the South Atlantic. The action took place at long range. The Carnarvon Castle was damaged and put into Montevideo for repairs. It was believed the German ship was badly damaged.
