IMPORTANCE OF ENGINEERS.!, NO PUBLIC STATEMENT. "I am not- prepared to make a statement for publication. Thie is really a policy matter, and I am now a servant of the Crown," said Mr. A. W. Nisbet. of Wellington, director of emergency training, at a sitting of the Auckland Area Manpower Committee yesterday, when he. was called by the Crown representative, Mr. L. X. Harris, to describe conditions in the engineering industry and to outline the proposals for setting up training schools. Mr. Harris said he supported the appeals for the postponement of service of three employees of the Auto Machine Manufacturing Company, Ltd., and called on Mr. Xisbet to deal with the matter before evidence was called. Mr. Nisbet said he was prepared to discuss the matter with the committee but he was not prepared to give details in open meeting. The deputy-chairman, Mr. L. J. Kendall, who was presiding, stated that the appeals would be heard privately, and it was announced subsequently that the appeals had been adjourned sine die owing to the important nature of the _ _
