AU REVOIR TO PRIVATE HARRY MOORE.
THE Mount Eden Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club was formed in November, 1918. Its foundation secretary, Mr. H. W. Moore, is still officially Hβ executive officer, although he has handed over the duties meantime to brother "Bill."' while Harry himself takes a turn overseas with the Fourth Reinforcements. Harry left Auckland on New Year's Day to spend the last week of his leave at Hastings before returning to duty at Trcntham military camp. Besides club activities he has been intimately associated with the Centre control of swimming— secretary from 1024 to 1930 and handicapper for many, many years. He was manager of the Auckland teams which represented this province at the Xcw Zealand championships at Wellington in 1929 and at Greymouth in 1930. Besides Gordon Bridson. who won practica.il}" every men's event at both carnivals, there was a galaxy of women champions at the West Coast meeting—Ena Stockley, Marie Farquhar. Peggy Robertson. Ediia Rainey and Jean Thomson. Himself an active competitor in his day H. W. Moore in 1923 won the Chelsea to Shelly Beach harbour raw of a mile and thrjse-quarters, and an hour afterwards, just to show that "he could take it, he' was first home in a half mile handicap. There was no race in 1924 owing to a shark scare, and in 1925 Moore finished second in the same trans-harbour event to N. Burgess.
While in Auckland, Harry, who was made a life member of Mount Eden in 1939, received farewell presentations from swimmers an 3 Mount Edce Borough Council and staff.
