OTAGO TENNIS GIRL
Fine Effort Against T. Poole.
Miss Mavis Korr. who hae been showing good form in Diinedin this eeason, made a sp'rited bid to win the women's singles at an open and handicap tournament conducted by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at Christmas, Bays the "Otago Daily Time?." She 'heat the second and third players in Christchurch. and then made a gallant fight against the provincial champion. Miss T. Poole. in a hard-hitting final. There were many fine exchange* during the match (says the "Star-Sun"). Miss Kerr's beautifully hit forehand drive often ended the rally with placements that left even the fleet-footed Miss Poole yards out of position. It was Miss Poolc's court<<>\oring ability, however, which made Miss Kerr's task so dishearteninglv difficult. Many of the Otago girl's best were returned with interest, and thorp was always the danger that in the middle of a rally Miss Poole would find the opportunity to go to the net behind a hard-hit drive to the Wkhand. Mies I oolo's volleying was deadly. The score favour of .Miss Poole was 0 2, 0 4
