SOUTHERN FORM.

WANGANUI HORSES. MEET WITH GOOD SUCCESS. FORDELL TEAM WINS £720. Wangamii horses won a good sharp of stake money during the holidays, a total of Ai.jjli,} altogether. inciiitlirij: £000 bcc-urcd l>y Sir liean at K]lci>lie imijs our lorrespoiidcnt). D;t\c Marks had a good innings ;it iStiatford, where betucfii them Kuatiti. Ked Cat and Scandal won for Mr. \V. McA. Duncan. lluntiti run second to Chief Lord in the Stratford Cup, and that race appeared to improve him as he won in great *tyle on the second day. He will make his next appearance at Treiitliam all wins; well, nnd will be hard to beat in his engagements as he is better than ever. Chief Lord was badly kicked on the leg alter going out for the Stratford Cup. and his rider returned to the enclosure thinking the horse was unfit to run. However, it was decided to start him, and lie won well, but was very lame next day. and will ha\c to be spelled. It was intended to take Chief Lord to Trenthum. but it -n il! now depend upon what progress he makes. Kingcraft scored two wins at Marton, thus making amends for previous failures. This three-year-old has galloped, well on the track all the season, but has not previously run up to expectations. Me has pace enough to win in good company, and now that he has started might no on winning. Dynasty was unlucky in the Marton Cup. as he had to jump over Globe Trotter when the latter fell early and pot into a bad position. The Posterity (,'elding is to be given a spell as lie has had a rather strenuous time lately. His two wins at Awapuni showed that Dynasty is much improved and other races should come his way in the autumn. AmigQ ran a good race for second in the Marton Cup, and on the second day won the principal event like the class horse he is. The Beau Fere gelding will be given a chance to freshen up for the Wellington Cup meeting. Miss Leighon followed up her success at Waipukurau by scoring a win and a second at Marton for Messrs. R. J. Babington and G. L. Stead. She appears to have come solid since Gerald Stead took her in hajid and she should score again before the season ends as she has the pace.

The two-year-old brother to Miss Leighon, whom Mr. Stead also has in work, ivas given a run down the straight nt Marton for experience. He is a bis fellow. but shapes like one that should make (rood. He will race under the name ot Self Preservation. Homily was expected to prove tinhardest for Amigo to beat in the Aldwovtli Stakes at Marton, but she was the wronjr way round when the barrier went up. and took no part in the race. She will probably make her next appearance at

Trentham. ■Globe Trotter was in a bad way attcr his fall in the Marton Cup, and it is unlikely he will race again for some time. Curtail won the >~ew Year Hack at Marton in good style. He was in front all the way, and galloping in impressive style with a long free stride reminiscent of his half-brother, Smoke Screen. Lady Accra won both juvenile event? at Marton in very easy fashion, register-' ing good time each day. The Lcighon--Acora filly ie trained on the course by t, C. McHugh. There is not much of lior. but she is compactly built, and other races are likely to come her way. The* Buzzer's Marton Cup win was ;i very creditable performance, as lie carried 94. Amigo led into the straight, and was making every post a winning one, but The Buzzer beat him in the run home, and won going away. Bell Cane did not show the form expected of her at Ellerslie after her performances at Riccartpn and Awapuni. Jt is evident she went off after racing at \wapuni. and may be needs a let-up as she has had rather a strenuous time tins season. , The Marton meeting was the most successful the club has held since the boom days of racing; in fact, the attendance on the first day was a record for the course. Another record established was that by Goldbmn in paying more than LIM on the win machine in the Hack Cup. Taurangi is not making the response to the treatment she has been having recentlv that was hoped for, and Mr. >V ■ McA 'Duncan says it will probably be some time before the Beau Pcre mare will be fit to put into work again.
