COMIC OPERA SEASON.
"THE GONDOLIERS'' TO-NIGHT.
The J. C. Williamson Gilbert and Sullivan company will begin their Auckland season ito-night at His Majesty's Theatre with a presentation of "The Gondoliere." The Governor-General, Lord Galway. and Lady Gal way are to be present. " "The Gondoliere" is a happy choice to inaugurate the season, being one of the most well known of the great collaborators' works. A matinee will be presented to-niorrow afternoon. The initial season is for four nights only, other works of Gilbert and Sullivan following in quick succession. Ivan Menzies will take the part of the Duke of Pl.-Lza Toro and Miss Evelyn Gardiner. popular London contralto, makes her reappearance as his duchess. j Gregory Stroud once again takes the leading 'baritone role of Marco. The first appearance here of John Fullard, a young Engiisli tenor, and Miss Viola Wilson, leading soprano, is creating special interest. Others in the large cast include Mi*s Phyllis Curnow (soprano). Sara Gregory (soubrette). Maxwell OHaker (tenor 1 r Vincent McMurray, Valerie Walsh. Chester Harris. Len Getting. Vera Evans, Elva Blair and Graham Jones.
