BIG INCREASE.

HOLIDAY BETTING.

Twelve months ago, due to wet weather, holiday bettinj. , on the Christmas and New Year race and trotting meetings held ::i the Dominion showed a decrease of over £30,000 compared with the previous year. With excellent weather conditions for the holidays ended yesterday the betting figures soared and when the total for the 21 meetings concluded yesterday was made up an increase of £137,40 l was revealed. The total amount passed through the tota lisa tors reached £1,293,048, and of the amount no less than £002,957 was recorded at the Auckland Racing Club's and Auckland Trotting Club's meetings, the increase at Ellerslie and Epsom over last season being £63,598. Ellerslie was up by £30,377, and the Auckland trots by £27,221.

At only one fixture. Wnipukurau, was a decrease 'recorded, and this was due to the fact that last year the suifimcr meeting was held ;it Hastings.
