BRABIN SHIELD.
CANTERBURY RETAINS IT. POPULAR OUTRIGHT VICTORY. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. After a bright and exciting match the Canter bury junior cricket representatives retained the Brabin Shield by scoring an outright win from Wellington by 75 rune. A large crowd yesterday afternoon was worked up to a great pitch of excitement at times and Canterbury's win was very popular.
After Canterbury had opened with 277, Wellington replied with 190 for four wickets at stumps on New Year's Day. Canterbury, however, got the home side out for 267 yesterday, and then carried on to a clean-cut victory. At Christmas here Wellington had taken the Brabin Cup (a separate trophy) from Auckland, which province, however, had a capital win over Canterbury a few days later.
OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND DRAW.
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, Thursday. The cricket match between Otago and Southland was drawn. Otago made 213 jnd 161 for four (1.. Smith 61 not out). Southland made 160 (M. O'Shea 62. Leader five (or 42) and 20 for one wicket. Rain stopped play.
BAY OF PLENTY DEBACLE.
(0.C.) HAMILTON, this day. Walkato defeated Bay of Plenty in a cricket match concluded yesterday by an innings and 42 runs. Walkato made 144 in its first innings, and Bay of Plenty 38. In the second innings Bay of Plenty made 64 (Chadwlck 22; J. D. Bright fcur for 13).
