THIRTEEN OUT.

BOWLS CHAMPIONSHIP. POST-SECTIONAL CONTESTS. SON SURVIVED HIS FATHER. (By TRUNDLER.) The most striking feature in yesterday's post-eeetion play in the Auckland Bowling Centre's Christmas tournament is that at the end of the third round the top place was held by the only rink which 19 playing as a team in the Dominion tournament next week. The men are T. Tudhope, R. G. Rainger, L. L. Macey, J. C. Duncan (Remuera), and the luck of the automatic draw put them thie morning against J. S. Martin (Carlton), who is also competing in Christchurch, but with an entirely different team. Martin's last game yesterday was drawn out until nearly seven o'clock, on account of L. E. Manning's Balmoral rink making a great effort to stave off defeat by killing head after heart. Replays continued until long after all the other competitors had left for home, but at last Lancaster and Martin succeeded in protecting the white, leaving Manning no target. The lastnamed had to surrender, although still able to continue as a onelifer this morning. Spectators were interested in the progross of the three Waikato teams which qualified, but the only one to survive the day's play was Stewart's Matamata riuk. Tt had suffered one loss at the hands of Duncan's Christehurch candidates, after an exceptionally close game. Howard Franks, son of Walter, the Dominion rinks and singles champion of 1939, carried his team to survive until today, after a tie against Clarke (Grey Lynn), which he settled by drawing the shot almost on the edge of the keen green. The success of W. E. Hunt (Holensville) was well received and his defeat of Whittle (Grey Lynn), a former. Dominion rink champion, promises well for the support that lie will givp to a Ponsonby rink in Christchurch. He also playe-1 some beautiful shots against Pilkington's Howick team, after being outclassed by Martin in thp second round. Yesterday afternoon results were:— SECOND BOUND. C.
