OBITUARY.

MR. C. H. POOLE

FORMER AUCKLAND M.P.

Cabled advJce has 'been received that the death has occurred in California at the age of 66 years, of Mr. Charles Henry Poole, formerly member of Parliament for Auckland West electorate.

Born in Queen's County, Ireland, iu 1874, Mr. Poole travelled* to Australia at the age of 11. He was educated at the National School, Victoria, and the Working Men's College, Melbourne. He set up in business as a jeweller, but later felt the call of the sea and carried on a maritime career until his leg was broken in an accident. Mr. Poole began studying for the Weslyan ministry," but later came to Auckland, where he was prominently associated with Y.M.C.A. activities. Elected M.P. for Auckland West in 1903. he remained in office until 1911. In 1914 Mr, Poole was re-elected.

Going to America as a lecturer some years ago, Mr. Poole had resided there ever since, epending much of his time studying social problems.

MR. EDWARD CASH. The death occurred yesterday at his home, 35, Windmill Road, Mount Eden, of Mr. Edward Cash at the age of 96 years. Mr. Cash had been a resident of Auckland for 65 vears.

Born in Belfast in 1844 he eenie to New Zealand on the vessel Star of Germany at the age of 31 and landed at Auckland.. During the 'eighties Mr. Cash was well known in Auckland business circles. He married the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Neil Campbell. He was connected with the Presbyterian Church all his life and was a boy soprano in the choir in Belfast. Mr. Cash is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters. His elder son was killed dur}i the Great War.
