THE RAREST STAMP.
t Quite a number of the wrest stamps have been found in strap collections formed by schoolboys. The rarest stamp o<f all vw first found by a schoolboy collector in British Guiana. The stamp was sat up in ordinary printer's type in a newspaper • office in British Guiana in 1856, a*> a fresh supply of postage stamps had not ' arrived from London. The schoolboy, r whose name was Vernon YaJUghan. and > who, incidentally, i#t no>w an old gentleman of 7-">. still living m British Guiana, recalls that the found the stamp in 1872 and as he did not Hke the look of it sold [ it to a collector friend of his for 6/! "After passing through the hands of several collectors and dealers, k finally 3 found its way iivto the collection of Baron von Ferrari, one of the world's ? most famous collectors, and when his collection vas sold in 1922 the Guiana stamp fetched the Tecord price of £7350. It was purchased by the late Mr. Arthur r Hind, the well-known American collector. The stamp has now been insured on Lloyd's foir £10.000. and is i:ndoubtedly the most valuable piece of pa per in existence.
