PENALTY AWARDED VAIN LAD The owner of Vain Lad, Mr. \V. ha.s lodged an objection to the penalty of 4S yarris awarded Vain Lail because of Jim win in the Claudeland.-j Handicap at the \N aikato meeting on December 7. A comparison j te made with the treatment of Short \\ a\ e, who won on the previous .Saturday on the same course. Short Wave won the Rukuhia Handicap. 4.52 class, off 12 yards, and earned £140. \ din Lad, 3t> yards, fourth. On tiie follotving .Saturday, S!ir>rt Wave was not a .-tarter in the ClaudelanrLi Handicap, 4..V2 ciaus, and Vain Lad, 36 yards won. Kor his win Short Wave was -iven 3*5 yards penalty and \"ain Lad, for his win, was penalised 48 yards.
