SHORTAGE OF APPLES. VEGETABLES IN GOOD SUPPLY. Ai to-day's auctions the Auckland city markets were short of tipples, Sturmer . and Taenia varieties realising rates. ' Hothouse tomatoes have filmed in value, especially for firm fruit. The demand' for , New Zealand grapefruit is fair, and choice peaches are selling well. Values for apricots vary acroiding to condition. The demand for straw Ik. 1 fries is good at prices quoted. LcgawUenies also had a gtxxl inquiry. \ aluee for cherries "we're higher at to-day's sale. Black currants are now coming on to the market, and are selling at good rates. A few wonder berries are coming forward and bringing fair prices. There is a fair sale for desert plums of choice qualify, but no demand for small and inferior giatles. Both green peas and beans were in good supply, although ]«>as were much lower in value to-day than la.»t week, with beans slightly firmer. Cabbage and cauliflower were in good supply, quality lines of cabbage selling at high prices. There was an over-supply of potatoes, these selling at very low prices. Manows were much heavier in supply, with lower prices ruling. New season's onions were in heavy supply at much lower rates than last week. (Jucuinbers I'n-day were very plentiful and ]>riees easier. Asjiaragus in ill good supply at recent rates. Carrots lire in short supply, those offering realising high prices. Rhubarb is plentiful and sellinn at low prices. Supplies of lettuce are very heavy and prices are very low. FRUIT. Prices were:—Tomatoes: Hothouse. lOd to 1 2 per lb; outdoor, 6<J to 9d; others. 3d to sd. Oranges: Australian. 18/ to 28 6 per case. Bananas: 25 to 27 3 per case. Pineapples: Island. 25 per case. Grapefruit: New Zealand. 9 to 12 6 per case; small, 6/ to 8, . Lemons: 9 9 to 19 6 per case. Peaches: Dessert, choice. 8/ to 10 per trav; others, 5 to 7' per case. Plums: Desseri. 6-' to 9 per case; cookins. 4 to 5.: others. 3 6 to 4 . Grapes: Hothouse. Black Hamburg. 4 6 to 4 8 per lb.
