ST. JOHN AMBULANCE. ALL ACTIVITIES INCREASE. All previous record* were broken in every branch of the work of the St. John Ambulance Association la*t vcar. according to the nIIHUH 1 report. Nime the beginning of the war. large clashes of instruction in first aid, home nursing and other subjects had been formed in every district and the immediate public support had taxed both the association and the brigade. Senior pupils in primary schools had been instructed with marked success, and, in several cases, cadet divisions had been ■formed. Examinations and lecture* were held in 70 schools throughout the Auckland Province and in all suburbs of Auckland. District nurses, stated the report, visited no fewer than 11.84fi patients, involving a distance of 28,42.~> tnilert during the year. There was a marked increase in the number of patients attending the out patients' clinic, showing the continual development of this tvpe of nursing attention. .Sister* were helped each day in their work by girls from the (Juecn Victoria (!irls* College, who intended to take up nursing. The report concluded 4>y stating that consider*ble assistance had lx>en given to men discharged after service overseas ami to men discharged medically nntit for home service. It was anticipated that this assistance would have to 'be forthcoming for some time to come, but it. was hoped thnt more definite instructions would be issued by the National Patriotic Fund Board as to whose responsibility it was to care for men on their return to the Dominion.
