MEDAL FOR AUCKLANDER. DROWNING AVERTED. (P.A.) CHRIK'K Hl'Rl H. Thursday. Awards for bravery wer«- granted to the following persons at a meeting of the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand today : — Certificates.—Eleanor Jane Wilberfoss, ■tgsd ltj, of Wanganui. who 011 February 5 rescued a young girl from drowning in heavy surf at Castlecliff beach, Wanganui; Jack Dixon Pepper, aged 29, of Hamilton, who 011 September 27 rescued a man drowning in a lieavv current in the centre of the Waikato* River; and Leslie Waters Seager, aged 37. of Wellington, who on October 4 dived into the Wellington Harbour between a ship and a wharf to rescue a man who had had a heart seizure and fallen into the water. Bronze Medal.—Charles Lewis Olsen, aged 42. of Auckland, who rescued a man from drowning in the. Waitemata Harbour 011 August 2:). He went out in a boat in very rough water, bent over to seize the man's coat. and, noticing the man's teeth were in his throat, drew them out first, expecting every minute that his boat- would swamp, as water was coming over.
Letter of Commendation.—Thomas McDonald <u~*ien. aged 17. Of Invercargill. who on March 24 dived into a swift-fiowing river and rescued a man from drowning.
