BUILDING PERMITS.
Permits for the erection of new dwellings in the larger centres of population in Xew Zealand during October numbered ")24 against "><lli in September. and SOI in October. 1!K«). according to figures published in the Abstract of Statistics. Included in the total for October la*t were 2:SO houses to be erected under the State scheme. The value of building permits issued was £701,153 for October last, compared with £7tH>,442 in Septeiuiwr and £059.53:2 in October, 1039. The total sum for October, 1040, included £540.971 for the erection of dwellings, £74,613 for other new buildings and £145,509 for alterations to existing buildings.
