ON WAR FOOTING.
N.Z. FIRE BRIGADES.
EXTRA MEN TO BE TRAINED.
(T.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. A statement that the War Cabinet had decided to put the fire brigades of New Zealand on a war footing and that the intention was to draft certain for training a? auxiliary firemen in lieu of territorial serwuo was made by the chairman of the Wellington Fire Board, Mr. Dean, to-dav.
These men. he said, would be required to attend training on three nights a week and at week-ends, and would lie paid on the basis of territorial rates.
Mr. Dean was addressing otiicers and men at the Central Fire Station liefore attending a meeting of the board.
