R.A.F. Bomber Shoots Down Nazi Fighter At Night. HAMBU&G RAID INCIDENT. British Official Wireless. (Reed, noon.) RUG~B\, Nov. 28. A Royal Air Force bomber's unusual feat of shooting down an enemy fighter by night was described by a sergeant air-gunner. "We were on our way back from bombing Hamburg. Iwo anti-aircraft shells hit us, but our aircraft was still In good shape over Bremerhaven. The searchlights caught us, but there was no attempt to renew the anti-aircraft fire. "Very soon we saw why they were letting"us alone. A Meeserschmitt 109 was coming for us from behind a searchlight beam. When I saw it there was only 100 yards between us. There was a burst of machine-gun fire and a number of bullets hit us. I fired with both guns and caught the Messerselimitt just ae it did a steep bank light over our wing. "My pilot told me afterwards that he saw it flash past our nose, with flames pouring from It. A few seconds later 1 saw it again plunging straight down. Hitting the ground, it exploded at once."
