NEWMARKET GREETINGS.
CABLEGRAM TO ENGLAND,
Greetings and an expression of sympathy in their present ordeal have been sent in a cablegram to the people of Newmarket, England, by the Newmarket Borough Council on behalf of the residents, it was stated at the council meeting last night. Greetings will also be sent to the towns of Newmarket, in the United .States, and Newmarket, Canada. Recently the English town council communicated with the Auckland body congratulating it on the naming of one of the American destroyer*, now in service -with the Royal Navy, Newmarket. The local borough council is forwarding a gift of £20 sterling to the officer commanding the vessel as a Christmas gift to the crew. Copies of the brochures published at the time of the borough's centennial celebrations and the opening of the Olympic ]>00l will also be sent t<> England. " Tile council appointed the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, and Messrs. C. H. K. Mountain and R. E. Newport- as the borough's representatives on the Home Guard committee.
