WOOLLEN INDUSTRY.
HIGHER WAGES SOUGHT. DOMINION AWARD CLAIMS. (PA.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Application for a new Dominion award was made to the Court of Arbitration to-day iby the Xew Zealand Federated Woollen Mills and Hosiery Factories. Employees" Industrial Association of workers. The employees asked in all cases of adult males in woollen mills, hosiery factories and carpet factories for an increase of 20 per cent on present rates of pay. The claims sought the abolition of all hourly rates and the substitution of a weekly wage for all \\ orkers other than piece workers. Jhe employers' counter-proposals included provisions that the ordinarv hours weekly from Monday to Friday inclusive be 44; that ordinary hours of \\ 01 k daily be 7.30 a.m. and •j.30 p.m. each day; that between noan and 2, p.m. the workers be allowed an inter\al of 4o minutes for a meal; that the employer have the right to extract nine and a quarter ordinary hours of •ork daily until 44 hours were exhausted; that workers work four and a half continuous hours before an inter\al for meal; that no overtime be paid to any worker until he or she completes 44 ordinary hours in any week in which any work is done outside ordinary hours, j
