COPPER PRODUCTION.
MOUNT LYELL RESULTS. Though on account of the war production figures may not be published. Mount Lyell. Australia's largest copper mine, at Queenstown (Tasmania). Increased Its output on the previous year. In order to help meet the increased demand for copper the company is doing all possible to extend output, and It has the practical encouragement of the Prices Commissioner in this regard—there Is a bonus of £4 a ton above the £72 lixed early this year to be applied towards developing production. Boon after the outbreak of war the Australian price of the metal was fixed at £63 17, 6 (Australian) a ton. Additional reserves of ore totalling 162.000 tons were opened up during the year, and estimated reserves at September 30 were 10.630,000 tons, of an average assay value of 1.47 per cent copper, O.llox silver and 0.0130z gold a ton. The net profit, as announced recently In the Star, was £103.095. compared with £161.189 in the previous year. An interim dividend of 9d a 7"f/, p * ld ». on J . une 17 - an<l a further dividend Ot 1/3 a share Is payable on December 18.
