VORTHCOTE BOROUGH. The Northcote Borough Council met last evenIns. The Ma Tor. Mr. R. Martin, presided. Ifluritwy Precautions.—The emergency precautions arheme waa outlined by Mr. A. S. Bailey, deputy chief wsrdsn ef the Auckland area. T.ie council decided to adopt the Auckland metropolitan dlatrlct scheme. Home Guard.—The following residents were appointed a committee for the Home Cuard In Northcete:—Messrs. R. Martin, W. Aspdcn. E. Fowler, N. Davidson. N. Swanson, A. V. Tyer, 8. Carter and W. Hsy. Christmas Pletarse—Permission was granted to allow pictures to be screened at the Northcote Theatre on Christmas night. Waste Metal.-—The borough foreman reported that a very satisfactory collection of waste metals had been made In the borough. Nerth Shore The Mayor. Mr. R. Martin, and Councillor E. C. Fowler reported to the council on the recent deputation to the Auckland Hoepitsl Board for the erection of s hospital on the North Shore. Bwlmmlag Fee].—A request was received fer financial assistance lor the erection of s swimming bath at the Northcote primary school. The headmaster. Mr. R. Kelly, stated that money raised for the purpose would receive a £ lor jj subsidy. The council, after full discussion considered that the scheme should be oppaaed mainly from a health point of view, and it thought the beaches at Northcote were quite safe for children
FAFAKVRA COUNCIL.
The Mayor. Mr. 8. Evans, presided at the Fapakurs Borough Council's regular meeting. £amp Read Lighting.—Advice was received from the Public Works Department that It Intends to install M electrM lights from Walters Road at Tironut and rich: round the camp along Grove Road to the Clevedon Highway; two lights are to be Installed in Valley Rosd. near Tironul Station, and one at th« entrance to the station, Feet OMea Parking.—A business man drew the council's attention by letter that there was no provision for parking on the western side of the Oreat South Road opposite the Post Ofßce owing to a pedestrian crossing and a large bus stop, and suggested tha latter be moved 75 yards northward. The matter wis referred to the traffle inspector for a report. •treat Lighting. -A reply to the council's application for additional street lights was received from the Auckland Power Board, who stated it regretted being unable to Install any freeh lights owing to the Emergency Regulations not permitting tha use of piping for brackets.
GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD,
Mr. J. H. Harding presided at s meeting of the Olen Eden Town Board. Mr. Bollmrd, whs has been indisposed durlnr the put few vteks, ww franted three months' leave of absence Bt. Jahn Ankalance —The aaaoelatlon was given permission to take up a street collection on Friday. December 8. The board also authorised a contribution of £ 1 1/ towards the association's annual appeal. OverbrMge, Croydon Station Crossing.—lt was decided to request the Member for the district to make representation to the Minuter of Public Works urging expedition In the construction of the railway overbrldge at the Croydon Button crossing. It was stated that the Railway Department had Informed the board thai the bridge would be open for traJDc within five 3onths of the closing of the crossing, and that months had since elapeed and so far no Indication had been given that the work Is to be put In hand. Railway Reserve Beaatlflcatlon.— Application Is to bo made to the Railway Department for a lease of the reserve at the corner of West Coast and Edenvtew Roads for beautlflcatlon purposes. Beit Onard Committee.—The chairman. Mr. Harding, and Mr. Alp were appointed representatives of the board to act In conjunction with representative* to be appointed by the Western Suburb* Returned Soldier*' Association a* a Home Ouard Committee for the Olen Eden district. Lnm rail. —It was decided to call a meeting on Tuesday evening next to put before ratepayers detail* of the Vailey Road loan proposals. Financial Adjustment.—The board authorised the execution of the agreement between the New Lynn Borough Council and the Town Board In connection with adjustment of aaeste and liabilities required by the recent alteration of boundaries between the two districts. Footbridge la Brand** Road.—The board decided to take no further action regarding a suggestion that a footbridge be provided over the railway line to give access between West Coast and Brandon Roads. It was stated by the distrlet railway engineer that, a* a level crossing wa« situated * few chains west of the suggested alt*, the expense of providing such access was not vaxrantod.
