GIRLS' HOSTEL.
STAFF DIFFICULTIES. INEFFICIENT TYPES OFFER. In axking that the reeent increase of ® per cent in wages be granted to the staff of the hoxtel, the matron of the Mount Albert (irammar School, in a letter considered at the meeting 1 of the Board of Governors of the Auckland Grammar School Board yesterday afternoon, mentioned the almost insurmountable difficulties which were being experienced in regard to the domestic staffing of the hostel. She stated that experienced or trained girls had been unprocurable for a long time, and that it *»• almost impossible to keep a fall staff with the inefficient type® offering. Other institutions were experiencing similar difficulties. "Neither ray assistant nor I feel that "e can approach the work of the coming year with any confidence that we ean sustain the struggle to maintain at least a reasonable standard, especially in view of the full household next year," stated the matron. "The ever-rising costs create a further embarrassment, and, do what we will, an ever-changing •taff does add to costs." The board decided to grant the 5 per ewit increase in wages. "We will be in an awful mess if we eannot get a full and good staff," remarked Mr. St. Clair Brown.
