EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.

OBSERVATORY RECORD.

240 MILES FROM WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Monday. An earthquake was felt in Wellington at 1.30 p.m. to-day. At the Dominion Observatory the seismological instruments recorded a 40-eecond interval between two shocks which were part of the same earthquake. The origin was probably deep-seated and about 240 miles distant from Wellington.
