ELLERSLIE TRIALS.

ON COURSE PROPER. HUNTER'S ROSE IMPRESSES. DEPENDABLE ALSO GOES WELL Weather conditions were perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning, though the going w:as cutting out and was on the slow side. There was a good deal of work on the course proper, on which the poles were 60ft out, and the best elforts were those of Hunter's Rose, Nuna, Judgment, the two-year-old Dependable, Marchby, Royal Message, Stratford and Phaleron. *

The best gallop over three furlongs was that of Hunter s Rose (Vaughan), who ran the distance in 38s. She was doing it well at the end and should not take long to reach her best. Judgment (Markwick) and No Caste (Vaughan) also went pleasingly while running three furlongs in 38 4-ss.

The two-year-old Dependable (Thomson) was too good for Transmitter (Gilchrist) throughout half a mile in 51 4-ss, the last three in 38 2-ss. It waa a firstclass trial, as Dependable has had little experience.

Nuna (Wiggins) finished in front of Brahman at the end of half a mile in 52 3-ss. Nuna worked in improved style, but Brahman also hit out well and could probably have done a bit better.

Another good half-mile was that of Prival (Wiggins), who finished clear of Purple Vermeer (Messervy) in 52 4-ss. Prival worked better than he has done for some time past. The maiden candidate Marchby (Vaughan) returned the beet figures for five furlongs—l.7. She was assisted over the last three by Rarotonga (Thomson) in 41s. Royal Massage (Manson) shaded Biddy Girl (Tremain) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. Both horses were doing their work well. Sttatford (Vaughan) got the best of Boy Lu (Thomson) at the start of six furlongs and led him home in 1.22 3-5, which was the best of the morning over the distance. Over the same ground Phaleron (Wiggins) and Kindergarten (Markwick) were timed to run 1.22 4-5, the first three in 4ls. .Kindergarten has done well since the Avondale meeting. Other gallops are:— Three furlongs: Orate (Kerr) 41s, easily, Declaim (Messervy) 41 l-ss, Milanion (Vaughan) last three 40 3-ss, Clinch (Vaughan), looking in great heart, last three of a round 42 l-oe.

Seven furlongs: Ivy Willonyx (D. Green) and Sir Cameron (Wiggins) 1.40 3-5, and could have done better, Valmint (J. Bagby) 1.37 3-5. 1.51 3-o, the last six furlongs in 1.25 2-5, Rajanya and Loyal Grant 1.56. The Jumpers.

Poland (Turve.v) cleared a couple of pony hurdles and afterwards two bigger ones in a satisfactory manner. Sardue (O'Connor) jumped a couple of pony hurdles twice. Digfter Jim (Alaria) gave a pleasing exhibition over four hurdles, and Agog

(Maria) shaped well in a 6chool over eix.

Ked Appellant (Turner) \v{is sent over four hurdles, giving a safe display, while in a similar task Vaalso (Turner) was just in front of Bright Idpa (Kerr) at the final obstacle, both shaping well. Willen (Cleaver) and Te Ronga (Neil) led Leiphton Buzzard (Turner) over a round of the steeplechase course. There was little between the first-named V>air at the finish and their showing was a very capable one. Leighton Buzzard jumped a bit high.
