Water Supplies At Bugbug Hit
By Bombers.
British Official Wireless. (Reed, noon.) RUGBY, Oct. 4. 1 A Royal Air Force communique issued in Cairo says: '"In the Western Desert a raid was carried out on Bugbug, on the Libyan-Egyptian border, and the water storage was [damaged.
"In Italian East Africa successful attacks were made on Maidaga, near Asmara, where, as a result of bombing, a large column of black • smoke was observed. Despite intense anti-aircraft fire and fighter opposition, the attack was pressed home. One enemy fighter, a Caproni 42, was seen spinning apparently out of control towards the ground at less than 1000 ft. One British bomber crashed.
"Four raids were made on Assab. Naval barracks, oil tanks, a jetty and neighbouring wharf buildings were bombed successfully, a direct hit being registered on the naval barracks. *
An official British communique issued in Cairo to-day states that there is no change in the situatiou on all fronts. An Italian communique reports enemy attacks against Bcrbera and several places in Italian Somaliland and Eritrea. It states that three persons were killed and five wounded. Slight damage was done. "The Viceroy at our interview was all courtesy,"' said Gandhi in a statement. "but he was unbending. He believed in the correctness of his judgment and again showed no faith in a Nationalist India.
"The British arc showing extraordinary bravery on the battlefield, but they lark the courage to take risks in ;he moral sphere. I often wonder whether the latter has any place in British politics. British statesmen failed to do the right thins: by Tndia when it was easv."*
