MILK ZONING.
SYDNEY'S POSITION. MANY PROBLEMS REMAIN.
The opinion that Auckland was well off in comparison with Sydney, so far as the milk position was concerned was expressed to-day by Mr. M. C. Duffy, who recently returned from a visit to Australia.
As in Auckland, the milk zoning system was as yet in its infancy in Sydney, eaid Mr. Duffy, and many problems remained to be worked out. However, there was one outstanding point in comparing the two—Aucklanders were getting better milk at cheaper rates while wages remained at much the same level. This said something for local organisation.
The position in Sydney was made more acute by the recent pbpularity of milk bars, which were now consuming a surprisingly large proportion of the city's total milk supply. This change from fruit drinks to milk shakes and similar drinks was quite recent and was throwing,; a considerable strain on the zoning system.
Supplier® -were having to go further afield for the milk, and at present there was some dissatisfaction with the system, although there was no doubt that they were working along the right lines. The problems which they were up against would in time work themselves out as they had done here.
