VALUABLE WORK.
ANTI-GAS TRAINING. An extract from a letter received recently by the St. John Ambulance i Brigade in Auckland from the Chief Commissioner for the Dominion, Lieut.Colonel G. Barclay, reads: "The Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs has expressed to me the appreciation of the Government for the assistance which the St. John Ambulance Brigade has rendered in connection with the instruction of certain of the civilian population in anti-gas precautions." A great deal of training in anti-gas precautions and first aid is being given by members of the brigade to the public, as well as to wardens and others under the Emergency Precautions Scheme, and Mr. E. C. Howee, corps superintendent, I hae now issued a second edition of his ! handbook, which is revised, enlarged and illustrated. Mr. Howes, who is the officer-in-charge of anti-gae training for the Auckland district, was the first member in Auckland to receive a grade one instructor's and examiner's certificate in air raid precautions and first aid for air raid casualties, and his handbook has been compiled from official sources and notes from the military authorities. The booklet, which may be obtained by members of the public, is the official text book on anti-gas training for the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
