The question concerned the changeover 'by farmers from creamery to cheese factory supply, and the Minister was asked what immediate financial assistance would be given by the Government to these farmers for meeting expenditure consequent upon the alteration in farm economy. "Would a grant be given or would assistance be given by loan?" asked Mr. Lee. He said there was a doubt in the minds of many dairy farmers as to the nature and extent of Government financial assistance arising out of the Government's financial policy in respect to increased cheese production. The Minister said that both the amount of the loan and the terms would be determined by the circumstances of each individual case, depending on the nature of the improvements to be effected, the life of the assets, and the resources of applicants. "No free grants will be made in these cases," he added —(Parliamentary Reporter/)
