ALLOCATION QUESTION

LONDON APPEAL OUTCOME.

Reference to the reeponsftßitlea of the Auckland provincial patriotic fund with regard to the purpose* for which it is required to. provide finance was made at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee last evening.

The Auckland Provincial Patriotic Ooonea stated that with sufficient finance available to satisfy the provincial obligation for London, as well ae leave a earn in reserve, it was emphasised that united efforts should now be concentrated upon the continuation of the campaign to ensure that adequate provision was made for the other equally commendable objects of the appeal.

On and after October 1 the appeai was therefore focused on the raising throughout the province of the £250,000 which the council had set iteelf to collect me part of the Dominion-wide campaign for £1,000,000 for all patriotic purposes.

The chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, suggested that a general meeting of the main committee toe called next week from which a special committee would be formed to run the campaign as a separate fund. He had no doubt that the money would be raised, but it would mean a big effort.

Amplifying the position regarding the Heart-to-Hcext appeal for relief of distress in London, Mr. N. Spencer eaid the Dominion total wee £100,000 and the Auckland provincial quota was in the vicinity of £8000. However, over £30,000 had been collected, and at a special meeting of the sub-committee it was pointed out that the people who gave this money did so on the express understanding that it was to go to London.
