HIGH INCOME TAX YIELD. British Official Wireless. LONDON, October 1. The Exchequer returns for the first hal: of the financial year show that the total ordinary revenue amounted to £452,518,411, an increase of £114,054,021 ovra? the corresponding period of the last financial year. The 'most striking increaaee in the yield from, various sources of revenue are in respect of income tax, which, at £95,111,000 ie £42,101,000 higher tnan a year ago, and excise duty, which is over £23,000,000 higher at £85,100,000. The total expenditure, 'lese eelf-balan-cnff items, is £1,010,135,776, compared with £562,826,216 at the corresponding date in 193$ after only one month of war. This great increase in expenditure* which te almost exclusively in supply to the services, reflects the country's effort in the prosecution of the war.
