EXPORTS SHOW INCREASE.
SHIPPING DURING AUGUST.
The effects of war factors, nof the least of which would be import restrictions, are , revealed in the returns covering cargo arriving at Auckland. In a report before the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday afternoon it wajs shown that ;laet£ the, *■ imparts amounted to 81,659 tons, a decrease' of 12,002 tone-compared with August last year. However, exports from Auckland laet month for overseas amounted to 18,505 tons, or 51SM tens more than in August, 1939. In imports the principal increases wew in sugar (raw) 5917 tons, salt 1526 tons, fruite (fresh) 1354 tone, (preserved) 227 tone. Principal decreases were in manures 7706 tons, motor spirit, fuel oils, etc., 7034 tons, wheat 2671 tons, coal and coke 1561 tons, timber, hardwoods 818 tons, flour and other meals 605 tons, and general 390 tons. ' In overseas exports the principal increases were in butter 3615 tons, meats (frozen, preserved, bacon and hams) 3168 tons, and cheese 923 tons. The principal decreases were in wool and skins 556 tons, general 537 tons, hides and calfskins 423 tons, milk products other than butter and cheese 205 tons, and tallow 149 tons.
