ROXY-TIVOLI
Action, romance and drama in liberal quantities'await audiences in "I Was a Convict," the Republic drama with Barton Mac Lane and Beverly Roberts, which comes to the Rosy and Tivoli Theatres to-morrow. The story deals with the experiences of one J. B. Harrison, millionaire food magnate, who is sentenced to prison for income tax evasion. While behind the bars he makes the acquaintance of Ace King, big-time racketeer, and after his release arranges a parole for his criminal friend. _ He then offers him an important position in his company, unaware that Ace Intends to "take him for plenty." However, Ace falls in love with the millionaire's daughter which rather tends to complicate matters, but paves the way for a realistic happy ending. Associate attraction fs Universale gay musical farce "Laugh It Off," in which Constance Moore, whose beauty, talent and captivating singing voice have made her one of the most popular young actresses in Hollywood, has the romantic lead with Johnny Downs, favourite of many Broadway musical successes.
STATE THEATRE. Songs and hilarity are the keynotes of "Shipyard Sally," now showing at the State Theatre, Symonds Street. Gracie Fields, with her inimitable brand of humour takes the leading role, with Sjdney Howard playing opposite her.
