INQUIRY WELCOMED.
WAR FUNDS COLLECTION.
Concern at the innuendoes and implications emanating from the meeting of the Auckland ProviuciaJ Patriotic Council was expressed by the Auckland centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society at a meeting yesterday afternoon. On Monday night at the meeting of the Patriotic Council under the chairmanship of the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, complaints were made concerning the continued collection by the New Zealand Red Cross Society for funds for the relief of the sick and wounded. It was stated at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland centre of the Red Cross Society that the executive of the centre had no knowledge of funds being collected for the sick and wounded other than during the campaign conducted by the Auckland Provincial Committee of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, of which committee Sir Ernest Davie was aleo chairman. A resolution passed by the centre welcomed an inquiry by any commission, Government or otherwise, which might be set up.
