IMMEDIATE START.
APPEAL FOR FUNDS. INVITATION TO PUBLIC. WELLINGTON, this day. The secretary of the National Patriotic Board, Mr. Ilayden, explains that a proportion of the £100,000 for the relief of London distress i<s to be found by provincial patriotic councils. Concurrently with the intensification of the bombing of London, the patriotic councils had completed arrangements for the launching of a Dominion campaign for funds for all patriotic purposes, including the rehabilitation of all branches of the Armed Forces, provision of relief for them and their dependents, also comforts and other needs. The object ivo of £1.000,000 had been fixed, and October 14 had been nominated as the starting date of this campaign.
In view of the decision to make New ] Zealand's gesture to the London people an immediate one, and to allow of allocations by provincial patriotic councils to the sum being sent to London to be recouped, the provincial campaign would be virtually started to-day. The public therefore, in contributing to provincial funds, would be giving to an outstanding objective among many worthy aim*, because relief for the London ]>coplc would now automatically be one of the. responsibilities of the provincial funds.— (Press Assn.)
