BRITAIN'S POSITION. STRONG IF LEADERSHIP GOOD Mr. George Bernard Shaw thinks that if Britain handles her reserves properly. Hitler has not got a dog's chance of twinning the war. Stir. Shaw was asked recently what he thought of full-page advertisements in American newspapers advocating a Federal Union between the United States and the United Kingdom, South Africa, Eire, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. They were inserted by Mr. Clarence Streit, author and journalist, on behalf of a group of American i citizens. Mr. Shaw said: "What is the value Lof mere advertisements of this kind? I When told that cne aavcrtisemcnts [ declared that America was "In imminent f danger of losing control of the sea ithrough Hitler forcing the British to - surrender their fleet," Mr. Shaw said: ."That may be the American view, but i we have the Empire at our back?, standling behind us, ready. r "All that America can do is stay out, come in, or go Hitler and adopt Fa.s- - cism," said Mr. Shaw. "The matter rof Federal Union will not be settled in ta moment by newspaper advertisements, p Federation is a vciy old type of ©utr look. Of course, in the end, we will ejhavc to jet together. p "But it is an extraordinarily absurd ( idea that unless we get together with Ithe United States we will be beaten. Wo 'are, in fact, in a pretty strong position. The German Reich is in a rather desperate position. Take the situation and 'consider it.
