Japanese Anemones
THE beautiful, Free-flowering Japanese anemones are worthy of consideration. Although they will flower with scant attention, the results are poor compared with plants that have been properly treated. This 'a a good time for planting, and the soil should have a good dressing of manure added. They should rot be disturbed for a number of years, but the clumps should be kept to a size by having any outside growth pulled off. They have one fault, and that is, every little piece of root will grow. This, however, does not cause any trouble unless the clumps are lifted, in which case every little piece of root must be carefully forked out. They do very well in semi shady and damp positions. In some soils and where tliey are allowed to grow at will they are inclined to become verj weedy.
