BIRDS THAT FELL TREES.
A little bird no bigger than .1 canary builds a nest as big as a house! lliat is in South Africa, where bird* are very sociable. They live in large colonies, ii.l the members of which build in M.e same tree. Each couple contrives a nest of mud, joining its walls to those of it«? neighbour. As the colonies consist of several thousand of birds the feathered town soon reaches very respectable proportions. The same tree is occupied the season that follows by the sitii'e coiony, and new nests are constructed 011 top of the old ones. Occasionally the whole mass of nests will cr-i>h .'own amid much squeaking. Sometimes it is the tree that collapses through the weight of so nianv homes and their 'utnates.
