HEAVY SWEDE SUPPLY.
LETTUCE VERY PLENTIFUL.
Cabbage and swedes were in heavy supply at the City Markets to-day, and sold at low prices. Cauliflowers were also in good supply, but rates were satisfactory. New potatoes were in fair quantities, fetching higher prices than last week, while small consignments of green peas and beans were very dear. Stock*; of asparagus and hothouse cucumbers increased in quantity to-day. with the result that rates, though still high, were slightly easier. Onions and celery were plentiful, selling readily. Winter pears were again in demand to-day on a short market. Choice hothouse tomatoes, of which only a few were available, met with a good demand. Prices were:— Vegetable*. Asparagus, ltd to 1/ per bundle; beet. 6d to' 9d per dozen; celery, cooking. 6d to 9d per bundle: dessert. 1/ to 3/: carrots. 1/6 to 5/ bag. fid to 1/ per dozen: cauliflowers, 5/ to 8/6 per sack, on benches. 2/ to 4'6 per dozen: cabbage. 1/ to 4/ per sack. 1/ to 1/6 per dozen; cucumbers, hothouse. 7/ to 8/6 per dozen: hothouse beans. 1/ to 2/3 per lb; green peas. 1/ to 2/3 per 1b; kumaras (Island). 2d to 3d per lb. Tauranga, 7/ to 9/ per bag: leeks. 2d to 4d per bundle; lettuce, 2/ to 10/6 per case: marrows. 2/6 to 3/6 per sack; onions, choice firm, 6/6 to 8/ per bag. medium. 4/ to 5/6. Potatoes: Southern. 5/ to 5'9 per ewt: Ohakune. 3/6 to 4/3 per bag; new. 2'.id to ii l id per lb. Pumpkins, choice. Bananas: Repacked, ripe. 23/ to 27/ per case. Tree tomatoes: 8/ to 12/ per case; small. 6/ to 8/ per case; yellow. 6/ to 9/ per case. Marmalade oranges: 4/ to 4/6 per case. Grapefruit: New Zealand. 5/ to 9/ per case: small. 3/ to 4/ per case. Lemons: 8/6 to 17,6 per case, according to grade and count. EGGS AND FARMERS' BUTTER. Eggs.—Hen: Standard grade. l/6!j per dozen. Duck: Standard grade. l/6»,i. Fanners' Butter.—l/ 2to 1/3 per lb. POULTRY. ' Afj to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain about the same. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime. 7/ to 8/ each: not prime. 5/ to 6/; Ught breeds, prime. 5/ to 6/; not prime. 2/6 to 4/. Pat hens: Heavy breeds. 4/6 to 6/6: light breeds. 3/6 to 5/. Drakes: Young, prime. 4/ to 5/. Ducks: Young. 4/ to 5/. Geese: 4/6 to 5/6. Turkeys: Hen*. 6/ to 8/; gobblers. 10/ to 18/. Cockerel chicks unsaleable. Guinea fowls: 6/ to 7/.
