Mr. W. Goodfellow returned from Wellington by air yesterday. Mr. Stanley S. Scott returned to-day from a short trip to Wellington. Mr. F. N. Ambler arrived from Welljngton by the Limited express this morning. The Hons. B. Martin, M. Briggs and E. Dye, M.L.C.'s, arrived in Auckland by the Limited express from Wellington this morning. Messrs. C. W. Boswell. A. S. Richards, W. T. Anderton and P. K. Paikea, M.P.'s, arrived from Wellington by the Limited express this fnorning. Captain V. G. Webb, of Wellington, marine superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company, lias returned to New Zealand after a visit to Australia. Mr. A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager of the Railway Department, returned from the north yesterday and left for Wellington by the Limited express lasit night. The Rev. R. Tthornley, accompanied by his wife and infant son, has returned to Auckland after an absence of two years and a half in England. During that period Mr. Thornley worked for the Methodist Church in the East End of London and in Lancashire. Lieutenant-Colonel F. K. Turubull has been appointed officer commanding brigade units at Trentham mobilisation camp, according to a Gazette notice, in place of Lieutenant-Colonel L. M. Jardine, who has resumed command of the Taranaki Regiment for intensive training. Dr. E. F. Thomson, formerly of New Zealand, wiho has been in charge of the pathological department of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, has been appointed director of the pathology department of the njedical branch of the Australian Imperial Force with the rank of major. He is a son of Mr. F. Thomson, of Christchurch. Mr. Alfred Wyness has been appointed by the Minister of Marine, the Hon. D. G. McMillan, to the extraordinary vacancy occurring on the Wellington Harbour Board as a result of the death of Mr. Dougall John McGowan. Mr. Wyness will sit as a representative of payers of harbour dues other than dues on ships. He has had 30 years' commercial experience in Wellington and is very well-known amongst the commercial community. Mr. Wyness was honorary deputy-Consul for Czechoslovakia prior to the occupation of that country by Germany. He has been a member of the New Zealand Society of j Accountants since 1911.—(Press Assn.).
