PROTECTION SOCIETY.
APPRECIATION EXPRESSED. The monthly executive meeting of the Society for the • Protection of Women and Children was held in the society's rooms, Mr. Dawson Donaldson presiding. During tlie month the help of Cabinet Ministers had been asked on various problems, and the committee expressed its appreciation of the sympathetic way in which the representations of the society had been met. It was decided to write to the Prime Minister acknowledging with thanks the general assistance given to the society by the Government. It was noted with satisfaction that the Government proposed making alterations in the legislation regarding social diseases. Mrs. W, Fossey, a member of the executive, was granted leave of absence for six months. The officers presented detailed reports of the month's work, showing that out of 121 cases handled 11 had been referred to the society's solicitor for further proceedings. Of the domestic cases a good proportion had been adjusted satisfactorily, and several reconciliations effected. The problems dealt with included. seven affiliation cases in which we were successful in obtaining orders for maintenance for the child. The inspector made 75 visits, and attended the Magistrate's and Children's Courts seven times, and the Supreme Court on one occasion. The sum of £353 was handled as maintenance for clients.
