VS. DEMOCRATS. Vice-Presidential Nominee In Fighting Speech. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Reed. 10 a.m.) XEW YORK, Aug. 29. A message from Dcs Moines (Iowa) states that Mr. Henry A. Wallace, accepting Democratic nomination for the Vice-Presidency, said: "The Democrats are determined to break up the gigantic conspiracy whereby the Nazis arc trying to subjugate America. The United States must face the fact that the dictators have definite designs on this v hemisphere."

He charged that the Republicans were the appeasement party, which the dictators back in every way. "In the United States, as well as in other Americas," he said, "certain men for the purposes of their own profit want Britain to give up the fight against Hitler, and desire economic appeasement between the Americas and a Germancontrolled Europe. In that direction lies slavery. "Appeasers Back Republicans." "Those standing for business appeasement for Germany are the backbone, even unwittingly, of the most dangerous of all Fifth Columns. These appeasers will have their way if the Republicans win, because they have contributed largely, politically and financially,. to the Republican cause.

"Some of the most bitter attacks against President Roosevelt were inspired by agents of Hitler in this country. From the confusion created they hope to build political, and, eventually, military power.

"The replacement of President Roosevelt would cause Hitler to rejoice. I do not believe Americans will turn their backs against the man Hitler wants to sae defeated."
