NO REWARD.
TO PAY FINE INSTEAD.
TWO MEN CONVICTED. Instead of scaring in the reward for "finding"' an electric radiator worth £1 •V, on July 14, Percy Southwell and Joseph William Daly, were, on a charge of theft, fined much more than double the value of the radiator, by R Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court to-day. Represented by Mr. Meek, each of the defendants, who appeared on summons, pleaced guilty to the charge of theft. It was explained by Senior Sergeant Joyce that on Sunday* morning, July 14. the complainant went to the Xewmarket railway station to rail some of his effects and left the radiator on a seat outside the luggage office while he went inside. When he came out again the radiator was missing. It w.-is later traced to the possession of one of the defendants. "This was an impetuous, stupid theft on the part of niy clients." said Mr Meek. "While passing through the Newmarket station Daly took the radiator, thinking it had been left on the platform by a passenger. Southwell suggested that they should share in the rew , ar 2 . w J en the y fo «nd the owner." .bach defendant was fined £3.
