TOBACCO LEAF.

PRICE ORDER ISSUED.

WELLINGTON, Thuraday. A price order has been keued by the Price Investigation Tribunal fixing a basic average price of 1/IOJ a pound for flue-cured tobacco leaf and 1/7* a pound for air-dried leaf of the 1940 crop. In explanation of the order the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said these were the minimum average prices to be paid by all manufacturers iu respect of aggregate purchases of leaf grown during the 1939-40 season. Tlie Tobacco Board recommended that the minimum average prices to be paid by all manufacturers for the 1939-40 crop be on the same basis as the preceding year. It was considered these prices could be given effect to bv order issued by the Price Tribunal and accordingly this had been done.—(Press Assn.)
