AVOIDING WAR.
HELP FROM U.S.S.R.? LABOUR WOMEN'S PLEA, A general Pacific conference, including representatives of Russia, India, China and Japan, in addition to British Dominions, to prevent war ia the Pacific, is called for in a resolution carried at a meeting of the Mount Albert Women's branch of the Xew Zealand Labour party. The resolution reads as follows:— "That in view of the receut detcriotf tion of international relations in the East, and the danger of the war spreading to the Pacific, th© Mount Albert Women's Branch of the New Zealand Labour party earnestly requests the Government to take the initial step* necessary for calling a conference of the British Dominions bordering on the Pacific, together with the D.SJL and. the U.S.S.R., and with the addition of India. China and Japan as time and opportunity offers, in order that some means of collective sectiritv mar be found to prevent the war from spreading. . It is recalled that the late KtHon. M. J. Savage suggested a conference before the present war began, and this branch respectfully suggests that his example be followed with a view to preventing the disaster and misery, unfortunately over Euroj>c, from spreading to the Pacific."
