NEW GYMNASIUM.
PAPAKURA FACILITY.
RECREATION FOR SOLDIERS.
| One of the problems facing the military authorities at Papakura mobilisation camp has been the recreational facilities available for tho men at night. This has been met in a measure by the provision of modern entertainment huts provided by the Y.M.C.A. and various church organisations, also by a commodious picture theatre. Tho latest, and it is believed one of the most popular, innovation is a gymnasium. The provision of a gymnasium, similar to those in other camps, has been a burning question for some time, the principal difficulty being the provision of a suitable building. This defect has now been overcome by the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Association, which has purchased a marquee at a cost in the vicinity of £300 and had it erected near the administration block.
• Approximately the size of a circus tent, this marquee will house the equipment required for a modern gymnasium. This has not yet been installed, but it will include regulation size boxing ring, with adequate lighting arrangements, also facilities for the gymnastic training of a large body of men. ,
