CAR STRIKES POLE.

TWO PASSENGERS INJURED.

MAYORESS OF MOUNT EDEN.

When the motor car he was driving struck a power pole in Mount Smart Road, Onehunga, yesterday afternoon, the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. Robert James Mills, of 734, Dominion Road, and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Mills, were injured. Mrs. Mills, who suffered extensive head injuries, was later admitted to a private hospital, where her condition is fairly serious. After receiving medical attefttidn for a deep cut in the left hand Mr. Mills was able to return home.

Mrs. Mills, who was sitting in the front seat, was thrown heavily forward by the force of the collision. Four other passengers in the car escaped without injury.

■ The car was damaged by the impact, the bodywork and mudguard on the right side being crumpled.
