SWEEPING FOR MINES.
WARNING TO
WELLINGTON", Sunday.
A warning to mariners to keep their ships clear of vessels engaged in minesweeping or exercises, as they are hampered to a considerable extent in their manoeuvring powers, is contained in the Gazette.
With a view to indicating the nature of the work on which they are engaged, all vessels towing sweeps are to thow 'by day a black ball to the fore masthead and a black ball at the yardarra on !the side or sides on which it is dangerous jfor vessels to pass, an<l by night alli round green lights instead of the black Iballe, and in a similar marine:.
j Vessels or formations showing these jsignals are not to be approached nearer [than 500 yards on cither beam, and t-liipe are not to cross astern at a lesa distance than 1000 vards.
In no circumstance* is a ship to jess through a formation of minesweepers.
