GOVERNMENT HOARDING.

The revelation contained recently in the daily Press, that the New Zealand Government is hoarding money in London will no doubt astonish many thooeand* of Xew Zealanders. "We occasionally see appeals made hy importers and other* that the Import Control Regulations (1938) should be modified. We arc told that if these regulations were not in operation the cost of living would be very much reduced. I quite believe this, but what I am concerned about is the fact that I cannot purchase many essential goods which, could be made available if the Government did not continue its policy of hoarding London funds. Ido not know very much about figures, but if the regulations which were brought into operation nine months 'before the outbreak of war were necessary to build up London funds, why is it, when funds have accumulated, we are compelled to do without imported goods. It is a well-known fact that Great Britain i* anxious to maintain her export trade for the successful prosecution of the war. I notice that the Government is now having a piece of the farmers, in that they will not allow them to buy separators.
