SOLDIER'S BRIDE. WEDDED THREE HOURS KILLED IN CAR SMASH. NELSON, this day. A soldier's bride of only three hours [and a bridesmaid at a Nelson wedding yesterday afternoon were both killed in a motor accident on the back road to Stoke early last evening. The bridal party was travelling to the NelsonWellington ferry to fareAVell the husband, a member of the Third Echelon, who was to have returned to camp on the boat.- The best man was also a member of the echelon. Both were admitted to hospital in a moderately serious condition. The victims were: — Miss Fridl Weyergang, aged 26, Waimea Street, Nelson, killed instantly from head injuries. Mrs. Barbara Childs, Nelson, died in hospital from Lead injuries. Private Anthony aged 27, Champion Road, Richmond, severe concussion, shock, extensive scalp wounds and a fractured leg. Condition moderately serious. Private James Joseph Derek Thompson, aged 24, Blenheim, formerly of Nelson, shock, severe concuesion, fractured upper jaw, crushed wound to the chest and lacerated wounds in the face. Condition moderately serious. Private and Mrs. Childs were married at the Nelson Cathedral at four o'clock in the afternoon, the bride bein» Miss Barbara Gould. Driven by Private Thompson, the bridal party had been to Richmond to Mr. Childs' party. On the way back to Neteon to catch the boat they travelled down the back road to Stoke and on the corner known as Russell's- Corner, where the back road joins Quarantine Road, the car went straight on instead of taking the corner, jumped a ditch about 2ft in depth and struck a iree on the other side. The front of the oar, a late model sedan, was stove in and the windscreen and steering column smashed. People living in the vicinity heard the smash and quickly went to give assistance. It was found that Miss Weyergang was dead. The other three went sent to hospital, where Mrs. Childs died half an hour after admission. Mrs. Childs was the daughter «of Mr. A. Gould, Nelson Harbour Board chairman.— (Press Assn.)
